Ptarmigan Hunting

The ptarmigan is a plump game bird, slightly larger than a gray partridge. During summer, it's colors are a mixture of gray, brown and black above with white bellies and wings. In winter, it becomes completely white except for its tail and eye-patch, which remain black. It breeds in the hills or mountains. The birds are residents, seldom moving far from their breeding sites. Although in severely cold weather, they tend to move from the higher ground mostly following the snowline.

Ptarmigan inhabit extremely physically challenging terrain and you should be in good physical condition, these birds live high up in the hills or mountains, often above the snow line, so shooting is not for the faint hearted.

We can offer ptarmigan hunting in prime hunting areas in the north-west part of Iceland.

Ptarmigan hunting is a popular shooting sport in Iceland.

For the year 2010 hunting season is limited from October 29th to December 5th and shooting is only permitted on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Goose hunting in heavy wind and rain on Sunday morning

Last Sunday morning we had two groups hunting in heavy wind and rain. Probably was the weather interfering the geese a bit because they flight in late this morning. Despite that they came in big numbers so the results was about 60 geese and 10 duck's. Not bad at all.

The number of geese are increasing every week so the best time is still ahead.
